Freediver - Level 2

PADI certified instructor Phillip Mishoe will guide you through Freediver - Level 2 where you will continue to learn about the physiology and physics that make breath holding and freediving possible, as well as expand on freediving safety and techniques.  This full-day class takes place in and around Central Texas in open water. PADI Basic Freediver - Level 1, or equivalent, is a pre-requisite for this course.

Overview

Freediver - Level 2 takes place in open water with a bit of time in the "classroom". In the classroom, we'll go over more advanced freediving techniques, such as "head down equalization", belly breathing, and getting past the first 10 feet as efficiently as possible. Then you'll dive in open water. Here you'll practice your breath-up, and get adjusted to the new environment. And as always, we practice and review our safety protocol in open water allowing adjustment to the new environment. From there you will move on to free immersion, where you will practice "head down equalization" and work on your straight line decent. After you've mastered that, it's on to your constant weight dives. This is where it all starts to fall into place and you put it all together: equalization, an efficient entry, the arm sweep, kick cycle, mask equalization, and a proper turn around/level out for a smooth return for your recover breaths.

Prepare for your class

The following equipment is required for Level 2. You can read more about freediving equipment here.

  • Mask

  • Snorkle

  • Fins

  • Wetsuit (wetsuits can be rented from local dive shops if you do not currently own your own)

You may also want to bring the following items:

  • Hat (bigger the better), or bandana to cover head/neck

  • Sunglasses,

  • Sun Screen,

Essentially what you'd normally take with you to the lake. We also recommend bringing plenty of water, snacks and food with you as many of the lakes have limited amenities.
